Auricular
Therapy
The ear is a reflex system (or microsystem)
in which the entire body is represented. Auricular Therapy
(Ear Reflexology) is the
evaluation and stimulation of the external ear for assessment and treatment
of health conditions in other parts of the body. It is typically used
an an adjunct to other forms of treatment. Conditions which can be
helped include: pain, stress, insomnia, addictions, anxiety, arthritis,
headaches, menopause, PMS, fatigue, IBS, and many other conditions.
Research in China has established that Auricular Therapy is effective in 85%
of cases and can treat over 200 diseases and conditions.
"Auricular acupuncture is probably the
most developed and best documented, scientifically, of all the microsystems
of acupuncture and is the most practical and widely used"
- Director of the World Health Organization in 1990
Shiatsu
Shiatsu
(finger pressure), derived from Oriental medicine, is based upon acupuncture
principles, but without using needles. Shiatsu focuses upon a different
energy system than Polarity Therapy does, but the principle is the same.
The Shiatsu practitioner presses points along the meridian (energy channel)
to either tonify (increase energy flow) or sedate (slow down the energy
flow) in order to restore healthy, balanced circulation. Kneading
and stretching along the meridians are also employed. The client
can remain fully clothed and a Shiatsu massage is typically a pleasurable
and relaxing experience which can result in tremendously powerful therapeutic
benefits.
