Polarity therapy is a wholistic system of energy medicine developed by Dr. Randolph
Stone, D.O., D.C., N.D. Although well versed in Osteopathy,
Chiropractic, and Naturopathic medicine, Dr. Stone felt that something
was lacking in the Western approach to healing.
Determined to find
the missing piece, he spent fifty years searching out and studying
medical practices, healing techniques, exercise systems and health
related philosophies in a variety of cultures. The “missing
piece”, he discovered, was an awareness of “energy” in the
body. Most traditional forms of medicine focus on a subtle
bio-energy system as the underlying foundation of health. This important concept
is strangely absent in Western
cultures.
Dr. Stone took what he
saw as the most essential components of Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic
medicine, yoga and hermetic philosophy. He then synthesized these,
along with his Western medical knowledge, into a complete health care
system, which he called “Polarity Therapy”. He chose the term
“Polarity” to express the fundamental idea that energy moves in
predictable patterns between positive and negative poles through a
neutral field, and that this movement of energy forms the underlying
basis for life as we know it. These principles, applied to the
human body, are in total accord with our modern understanding of
physics, although, an understanding of the physics involved is not at
all necessary for the practice of this profound healing art.
Polarity Therapy
includes energetic exercise, energetic nutrition, communication/facilitation and
energetic bodywork as viable methods of unblocking and balancing the
body’s subtle energy systems. This multi-faceted approach to
healing makes Polarity a very powerful system. You'll find the
principles just as useful and important for helping yourself and your
family as they are in your professional life.
What can you expect
when receiving a Polarity session?
The
client usually remains fully clothed in a polarity session. Since the practitioner
is affecting powerful energetic systems which are closely associated with
the nervous system, the results of a polarity session can be much more
profound than those of just physical massage. Emotions or memories sometimes
surface and the client may experience a dramatic release of tension or
trauma from the body. More typically, clients report enjoying a very
deep state of relaxation, often accompanied by new insights or awareness.
As with massage, some clients come for relaxation, some come for preventive
health maintenance and others come for relief from illness, discomfort or energetic imbalance.
How are "Polarity
Therapy Integration" classes unique?
I incorporate recent research in energy
medicine as well as perspectives from other established healing methods.
My goal is to help students experience the wisdom and depth of Dr.
Stone's teaching while emphasizing concepts and techniques which have proven
themselves to be useful. Participants come away with skills which are practical and effective.
The Polarity Therapy Integration classes,
while open to everyone, are oriented toward bodyworkers and a certain level
of skill with touch therapy is helpful. I consider energy medicine to
be "advanced" bodywork so massage therapists, physical therapists and other
hands-on practitioners can enhance palpation skills and therapeutic
effectiveness regardless of their specific type of practice.

I'm amazed at how much Polarity Therapy has helped
my massage practice! Treating common problems like shin splints using polarity contacts and
reflexes, the tissues release much faster than with massage alone. I feel more grounded as a therapist.

Exploring Energy:
Seven Chakras and Five Elements
May 12, 2012 in Akron,
OH
In
this class, you will examine the chakra system and the Ayurvedic five
elements in order to sharpen your understanding of energy medicine.
You will practice sensing, evaluating and balancing subtle energies in
the body while refining your ability to negotiate energetic boundaries.
The concept of five elements provides an energetic perspective (an
"energy language" of sorts) which is essential to Polarity Therapy.
Discussion topics will include the Ayurvedic five elements with a focus
on the Ether element. Just as Ether provides a field in which all
the other elements can express and move, this seminar provides a space in
which your healing skills, talents and abilities can begin to blossom. You will learn how to use bodywork, communication,
energetic nutrition and energetic exercise as tools for balancing the
chakras and the five elements.
NOTE: This will
be a pre-requisite for more advanced classes in the future.
This class is suitable for
anyone interested in the topics of chakras, healing, energy medicine or
Polarity. It is specifically
useful for bodyworkers and other health professionals who want to:
● develop an
experiential awareness of subtle energy
● begin utilizing the chakras in both assessment and treatment
● become familiar with basic anatomy and physiology related to the
chakra system
● understand the Ayurvedic five elements and their application to touch
therapy
● develop skill at identifying and negotiating energetic boundaries
● offer a new and powerful bodywork session to clients or patients
● learn energetic approaches to treating joint pain and dysfunction
